The Rapid City Council is currently considering an ordinance that will allow residents to raise chickens within the city limits. See the Rapid City Journal article here for more details. The idea was proposed by FourFront's own Aaron Costello who serves on the City Council.
This would be a great, progressive move for the community, and is a step in the right direction towards more urban farming opportunities.
Raising chickens in urban areas doesn't have to be loud, messy, or unattractive. Check out this modern chicken coop featured in Dwell Magazine a while back, complete with a chicken run, convenient egg collection, and green roof.
