Countertop Composting

Do you want a different idea to reuse or recycle coffee containers in your home or office? These little beauties make a good countertop composting container.

Composting is the decomposition of plant remains and other once-living materials to make an earthy dark, crumbly substance that is excellent for adding to houseplants or enriching garden soil. It's a great way to recycle your kitchen waste and is a critical step in reducing the volume or garbage needlessly sent to the landfill.

I put my kitchen waste in these containers during the week and at the end of the week I dump them into my big compost container outside by the garden. The items that are good to put in these are fruit and vegetable scraps, egg shells, green leaves, coffee gounds, and tea bags.

Because the container is airtight container there are no bugs that propagate in or around the container. Before I take the countertop container out I strain off the compost tea, which is the liquid caused from the airtight container, and put it in my water for my house plants. My houseplants love the tea and are thriving.

When the container starts to smell and no amount of washing will help, I then recycle it. At least I have kept it out of the landfill for a while. These containers are certainly numerous around our office; they seem to propagate!!
